Academic staff members and students from Department of Intelligent Operations and Marketing (IOM) ¡ª including Dr Zhiqin Ni, Dr Nicholas Yeo, Dr Qian Luo, Dr Jianyu Xu, Dr Jie Chu and Sixuan Wu ¡ª participated in the 2026 POMS China International Conference, hosted by Xi¡¯an Jiaotong University from 17 to 20 July. The delegation presented recent research findings and contributed to the organisation of two academic sessions.

POMS is an international professional organisation dedicated to advancing knowledge, teaching and practice of production and operations management. Its conferences bring together academics, students and industry professionals to exchange ideas through research presentations, seminars, panel discussions and lectures. This year¡¯s China Chapter conference explored how collaboration among humans, artificial intelligence and machines can enhance operational efficiency and performance, while contributing to safer, more reliable, socially responsible and sustainable systems.

Two faculty members from IOM¡¯s Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) research group, Dr Nicholas Yeo and Dr Qian Luo, organised and chaired sessions on decision-making in complex and uncertain operational environments. The sessions brought together researchers from universities across China to discuss topics including infrastructure maintenance, healthcare operations, supply chain co-ordination and sustainable innovation.

IOM researchers also presented their work across several conference sessions. Dr Jianyu Xu, Dr Nicholas Yeo and Dr Jie Chu shared studies on infrastructure maintenance, resilient healthcare operations and robust optimisation, respectively. Dr Qian Luo presented research on team management in search-and-rescue missions, while Dr Zhiqin Ni discussed strategic investment and competition in sustainable supply chains. IOM PhD student Sixuan Wu also presented a study on decision-making in remanufacturing assemble-to-order systems.

The department¡¯s participation in the conference demonstrated its active engagement in international academic exchange and its growing research strengths in operations management, service innovation, sustainable operations and decision analytics. Through presenting research and facilitating academic discussions, IOM researchers strengthened connections with scholars from leading institutions and contributed to conversations on the future development of production and operations management.
