Professor Liu is a Professor of Engineering, President of Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI), Executive President of Yangtze River Delta Advanced Materials Research Institute, President of Jiangsu Metal Society, and President of Jiangsu Entrepreneurship and Innovation Talents Federation.
In 1984, he graduated from Chongqing University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. In 1987 and 1991, he obtained a masters degree and a PhD in engineering from Harbin University of Technology.
From 1991 to 1993, he engaged in postdoctoral research at University of Science and Technology Beijing. From 1993 to 2000, he was a visiting scholar, researcher and senior researcher at Ris? DTU National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Denmark, conducting research in advanced metal materials.
From 1999 to 2006, he was a Professor at Tsinghua University, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Director of the Institute of Metal Materials. Since 2006, he has been a professor at Chongqing University and serving as the Dean, Assistant President and Vice President of the School of Materials. In 2014, he was appointed as the Executive President of Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute and presided over the Institute. He has been the president of JITRI since 2016.
As an expert in the field of materials, his research results have provided important technical support for the preparation and processing of high temperature superconducting materials, automotive light alloy materials, zirconium alloys for nuclear power, ultra-high purity metal targets for semiconductors and ultra-high strength steel wires. These research achievements have won multiple awards and accolades–including four first-place awards at the provincial and ministerial levels and two second-place entries of the National Science and Technology Progress Award¡ªand have been featured in the “National Top 10 Science and Technology News¡±. Professor Liu has also received honours through the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Changjiang Scholars, the National Excellent Teachers, and Advanced Scientific and Technological Workers.
Additionally, Professor Liu leads the innovation group at the National Natural Science Foundation of China for deformation, phase transformation, strengthening and toughening of metal materials as well as the innovation team in key fields at the Ministry of Science and Technology for basic research and engineering application of advanced metal structural materials.
He was also an expert in the field of new materials under the “863” programme of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the chief scientist of the “973” programme of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He founded Beijing Yingna superconductor technology Co., Ltd. and Eason Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.
Operations Dean
Ms Wei Zhou
Zhou Wei currently serves as Operation Director for Research and Graduate Studies at the Centre for Academic Affairs, Director of the Graduate School, and Dean of Operations of the XJTLU-JITRI Academy of Industrial Technology at Xi¡¯an Jiaotong-ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University. She is primarily responsible for research management, doctoral and master¡¯s student admissions, and graduate education support, while also overseeing the daily operations of the XJTLU-JITRI Academy of Industrial Technology.
In promoting the integration of industry, academia, and research, she has been deeply involved in the development of university-enterprise collaborative postgraduate training systems. She has coordinated the implementation of mechanisms such as the appointment of industry mentors, joint research project development, and process management. Through this work, she has accumulated extensive experience in the joint cultivation of high-level talent, providing strong support for the effective implementation of XJTLU¡¯s Syntegrative Education model in postgraduate education.
Yong Yue (BEng Northeastern China, PhD Heriot-Watt UK, CEng, FIET, FIMechE, FHEA) is a Professor and Director of Suzhou Municipal Key Lab for Intelligent Virtual Engineering. He was Head of the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (2013-2019). Prior to joining XJTLU, he had held various positions in industry and academia in China and the UK, including Engineer, Project Manager, Professor, Director of Research and Head of Department. Professor Yue has experience in learning and teaching, research and enterprise as well as management. He has led a variety of research and professional projects supported by major funding bodies and industry. He has over 300 peer-reviewed publications and supervised 41 PhD students to successful completion.
Professor Lei Fu is the Executive Dean of the Wisdom Lake Academy of Pharmacy at Xi¡¯an Jiaotong-ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University and Deputy Dean of Academy of Life and Natural Sciences. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Fudan University and earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Stanford University. Before returning to academia, he worked at Pharmacyclics Inc. in California, where he participated in innovative drug discovery and development projects.
His research interests include medicinal chemistry, drug discovery and development, mitochondrial biology, pharmaceutical process research, intelligent pharmaceutical manufacturing, and translational medicine. In recent years, Professor Fu has actively promoted the integration of artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, and life sciences to build a future-oriented biomedical innovation ecosystem.
Dr Shenhong Wang joined Xi¡®an Jiaotong-ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University (XJTLU) in July 2022 as a Senior Associate Professor of Practice and was elected a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2024. He received his PhD from Loughborough University in 2006, and earned his Bachelor¡¯s degree in Communication Engineering and Master¡¯s degree in Communication and Information Systems from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 1996 and 1999, respectively.
Before joining XJTLU, he spent nearly two decades working in the China-based R&D centres of multinational companies in the telecommunications, inkjet printing, and elevator industries, gaining extensive experience in industrial R&D and team leadership. He led his teams to complete many challenging R&D projects, achieved a number of innovations, and filed tens of global patent applications.
Currently, he teaches courses in sensing technology and robotics modelling. His research focuses on robotics and autonomous systems, with an emphasis on sensing, perception, collaboration, and system integration.
Dr Jiangmin Gu received his Ph.D degree in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2004. Before that, he received the B.Sc. degree in the physics and the M.Eng. degree in electronic engineering and information science from the University of Science and Technology, Hefei, China in 1997, and 2000, respectively. He worked as Senior IC Design Engineer in Avago Technologies, Singapore. He worked as Staff IC Design Engineer and CTO in several design houses in Shanghai and Suzhou. From 2021, he joined XJTLU as Associate Professor in Department of EEE. He designed and hosted the projects on analogue IC, wireless transceiver IC¡¯s on subG to 60GHz wireless transceivers, multi-functional chips for phased array systems, millimetre wave RF front-ends and RF front-end chips for routers. The processes used for those products includes CMOS, silicon germanium, gallium arsenide etc. In 2012, he was awarded with Leading Scientific and Technological talent in Wujiang District, Suzhou. In 2018, he was appointed as Industrial Expert in Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit Lecturing by College of Engineering, Zhejiang University. In 2019, he was appointed as JITRI Researcher at the Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute to lead the research and development of the 5G PA project. He also co-authored the book ” Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit Design Engineering Practice” with other scholars from Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Dr Long Huang is currently an Associate Professor and PhD Supervisor at the School of Intelligent Manufacturing Ecosystem, Xi¡¯an Jiaotong-ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University, and serves as the Director of Industry Engagement for Energy & Environment, XJTLU-JITRI Academy. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2014. After graduation, he worked in the United States and Japan on industrial consulting and product development projects before joining Xi¡¯an Jiaotong-ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University in 2020.
Dr Huang¡¯s research focuses on numerical simulation and optimisation design of high-efficiency heat transfer devices, with particular interests in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, advanced heat transfer technologies, and energy-efficient solutions. He has published more than 50 academic papers and contributed to the revision of six U.S. energy efficiency standards and testing methods related to walk-in refrigeration systems and commercial HVAC equipment. Dr Huang currently serves as an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Refrigeration and a Council Member of the Jiangsu Refrigeration Society, while also acting as a reviewer for several internationally renowned journals.
Dr Tianhong Gu is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science at Xi¡®an Jiaotong-ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ University (XJTLU), and also serves as the Director of Industry Engagement for Advanced Materials & Processing Technology, XJTLU-JITRI Academy. She possesses a strong academic background and extensive international research experience in materials science and engineering, with a focus on material microstructure control design, in-situ micromechanical testing, microstructural characterisation, and materials modelling. Dr Gu earned her MPhil in Materials Science and Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge and her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Imperial College London. She has been engaged in advanced materials research with research interests covering advanced electronic packaging, superalloys, high-entropy alloys, micromechanics of materials, microstructure, advanced microscopy, additive manufacturing, and materials modelling. Dr Gu has led multiple research and industry projects and is committed to promoting the deep integration of academic research and industrial applications in the field of advanced materials and processing technology.
